Nissan is building a new supplier park in Aguascalientes, Mexico, as part of its move to attract more local production.
AGUASCALIENTES, MEXICO — Nissan Mexicana SA de CV, Nissan Motor Co Ltd.’s Mexican subsidiary, plans to triple its purchases from local Mexican manufacturers to $7 billion by 2016, the company said April 7.
In a news release it said “more than 80 percent” of the content of the Nissan Sentra sedan, assembled in Aguascalientes and exported to the United States and Brazil, is manufactured in Mexico.
It made the declaration in a report announcing the official opening of the Douki Seisan Park for Nissan suppliers in Aguascalientes, 265 miles northwest of Mexico City.
Real estate developer Corporación Inmobiliaria SAB de CV, of Mexico City, is building the $57 million park on 682,000 square yards of land next to Nissan’s second light vehicle assembly plant in Aguascalientes, which started operations last year.
Three of the five buildings planned for the site have been completed and house the manufacturing operations of such companies as Japanese automotive seat maker Tachi-S Co. Ltd. and automotive parts manufacturer Sanoh Industrial Co., Ltd.
Both Sanoh, a specialist in pipes, and Tachi, which also makes steering and other components, are headquartered in Tokyo.
Nissan’s other assembly plant in Mexico, the first Nissan plant built in the country, is in Cuernavaca, 50 miles south of Mexico City. |
