Trainers for Engel Holding GmbH's new training program in Shanghai were themselves trained in Austria.
Engel Holding GmbH has launched a dual vocational training program at its machine facility in Shanghai, China, building on a training system already used in Austria.
“We are expanding rapidly in China, where we always have a high demand for skilled workers,” said CEO Peter Neumann. “Finding qualified staff in China can be difficult, though, because in many areas their state education does not measure up to our high requirements. That's why we took the decision to set up our own training program in China as well.”
Engel, based in Schwertberg, Austria, put in place the infrastructure necessary for the training program with partner firm Alpla, Austria. Trainers for the program were themselves trained in Austria.
Engel states that in contrast to most other apprentices in China, its CNC technician trainees gain a thorough practical grounding on the job from the first year onwards, and receive payment. Trainees undergo 12 weeks of practical training and six weeks of classroom instruction alternately.
At the end trainees receive a qualification equivalent to the Austrian standard that Engel states is recognized in both China and Europe.
Engel and Alpla are looking to expand the program and say in the future, young men and women will also be able to train to European standards as plastics technicians in Shanghai. |
