The University of Arkansas participated in the GameDay Challenge in 2013 and has signed up for the recycling event again this year.
Do you like to recycle? Do you like college football? Do you like to recycle while attending college football games?
Well, there’s a competitive program for that.
GameDay Recycling Challenge is returning this year as college football stadiums will compete to see which school produces the least amount of waste — including plastics — at their stadiums and tailgating areas, organizers said.
A total of 88 college teams participated in the program, which is managed by the College and University Recycling Coalition, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise Program, Keep America Beautiful and RecycleMania Inc.
Registration will be open until Sept. 30 at GameDayChallenge.org for colleges and universities wanting to take part in the program.
Schools from 15 conferences already are registered for this year.
"As more and more college football stadiums step up their sustainability game, the GameDay Recycling Challenge showcases the top zero waste college stadiums in the country while offering technical assistance and support to stadium-based recycling programs that want to achieve more,” said Stacy Wheeler, RecycleMania president, in a statement. “The response to the Challenge so far has been remarkably positive and growing."
RecycleMania is a broader recycling competition held at hundreds of college campuses over an eight-week period each year.
GameDay Recycling Challenge winners will be recognized for each conference. A national winner will be named for the total amount of material recycled or composted and food donated. There also will be a national winner for the highest diversion percentage rate. |
