MUMBAI — Melbourne, Australia-based Amcor Ltd. is strengthening its position in the growing Indian flexible packaging sector through a series of acquisitions.
Amcor acquired Uniglobe Packaging Ltd. last year and before that Alcan Packaging — which included operations in India — in 2009.
“Our India business generates $100+ million revenue annually and is registering double-digit [annual] growth,” said Ralf Wunderlich, president & managing director of Amcor Flexible Asia Pacific, in an interview with Plastics News in Mumbai.
India’s $30 billion packaging sector is growing thanks to rising consumption of processed food.
“Our India operation is to serve the growing Indian flexible packaging market, therefore, we are saved from the weakening rupee against the dollar in the last quarter,” Wunderlich said.
“We are planning to grow organically and inorganically in the India market,” he said. “We know India is a big country and is a divided in the four regions and we look up to have our presence in all the four regions.”
Amcor has plants in Daman, Chaken and Haridwar, India.
Amcor has 32 factories in Asia, including seven in China, not including two that it recently acquired from Shenda Group Co. Ltd.
